<p>Wilbury Partners conducted a salary survey in Autumn 2011 to collate information about current compensation packages within the Asset Management market. We engaged with:</p>
<ul>
<li>Legal Managers (responsible for at least one other lawyer and reporting into the Head of Legal)</li>
<li>Head of Legal/Sole Counsel</li>
<li>General Counsel (UK or EMEA level)</li>
</ul>
<p>Summary of findings:</p>
<ul>
<li>Seniority followed an uplift pattern.</li>
<li>No respondents at Legal Manager level received deferred cash options.</li>
<li>At General Counsel level, remuneration becomes much more bespoke and complex with a greater element of deferral.</li>
<li>Compensation appeared to be higher in institutions linked to investment banks and corresponded to a higher deferred cash element.</li>
<li>Location was not a factor in remuneration packages at any level of the hierarchy.</li>

<p>The research objectives were to:</p>

<li>understand how Operational Risk teams may change over the next 12-18 months</li>
<li>survey senior Risk professionals’ expectations regarding compensation over the next 12-18 months</li>
<li>understand the future of Operational Risk professionals within Financial Services</li>
</ul>
<p>Summary predictions from respondents:</p>
<ul>
<ul>
<li>62% believe the value of the Operational Risk practitioner will continue to increase over the next 12-18 months</li>
<li>43% believe the size of their Operational Risk team will increase over the next 12–18 months</li>
<li>67% are expecting a rise in their compensation package over the next 12 months</li>
<li>45% believe there are likely to be more Risk professionals promoted to Board level positions</li>
</ul>
